[Class 82 (ii).] The heavier material is discharged from the washing bed of a jig by means of a conveyer having spiral or scraper blades which move the material over a surface communicating directly with the washing bed to a discharge point, the conveyer being controlled by the movements of a float which rests on the heavier material on the bed and on rising above a predetermined level connects the conveyer with a source of power by means of any mechanical or electrical device. In the form shown in Fig. 1 a spiral conveyer J works in a trough A communicating directly through the passage G with the washing bed B, the heavier materials being carried along the trough A to the discharge point H. The trough and conveyer may decrease in diameter near the discharge end in order to prevent discharge of heavier material when the conveyer is at rest. Fig. 3 shows a scraper conveyer mounted on a vertical axis F and comprising a rotor J carrying inclined scraper blades J1 which move the material over a surface A communicating directly with the washing bed B to the central discharge H. To prevent clogging fixed projections J2 may be arranged on the surface A. Fig. 4 shows two arrangements of the scraper blades J1. The conveyer in each case is controlled by the movements of a float E. According to the Provisional Specification the form shown in Fig. 3 may be modified by fixing the surface A to the axis F and providing a fixed scraper to cause the passage of the material over the surface to the discharge point.
