Abstract
418,464. Building-blocks for boats. GORDON, C. B., Morach, Rockcliffe, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire. May 18, 1933, No. 14472. [Class 132 (iii).] A model boat or aeroplane fuselage is constructed of a number of transverse frame members 25, 26, 27 and longitudinal members 28, 29, preferably of sheet metal, which are oppositely slotted so as to engage one another. A stem 31 and stern post 32 are provided. To provide a foundation for the skin of the boat, the transverse members are provided with openings 36 to receive strips 38 which are interlaced with strips 39 at right angles, while the latter carry covering strips 40. The outer skin is constituted by plastic material 41, the surface of which is defined by projections 42 on the frame members. The plastic material may comprise sawdust and glue. A wooden gunwale may be carried in rebates of the frame members. Two deck beams 130 may be spaced apart to receive a mast, the lower end of which fits into a socket of square section held in position by the member 29. A leaden keel 57 may be provided, and also a horizontal transverse wire 61 to receive a sheet traveller ring. A counter stern forming a separate unit comprises two parallel contour members 65, Fig. 14, a rudder trunk 67, and wooden packing pieces 68, 70, 71. Figs. 17 and 18 (not shown) illustrate a construction of square stern, and Figs. 19, 20, 21 (not shown) illustrate a construction of arched cabin roof, and a cockpit. The frame members and other component parts may be readily cut from a sheet, e.g. of metal which is scored or incised for the purpose.
