Abstract

418,128. Arc lamps; discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gliihlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) July 10, 1934, No. 20257. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1933. [Class 39 (i).] In an arc lamp in which the arc is enclosed in a gas-filled chamber the filling comprises hydrogen and cadmium vapour with or without nitrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and rare gases. The gas may be 25 per cent hydrogen and 75 per cent nitrogen, the pressure at room temperature being 20 mm. of mercury. A small proportion of mercury may be added to the cadmium. The electrodes are of refractory material such as carbon, carbides, borides or nitrides, or refracting metal, with or without theria.
