417,515. Valve circuits for wireless reception. SOWERBY, A. L. M. R., 85, Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, and COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., 22, Highbury Grove, both in London. April 3, 1933, No. 9974. [Class 40 (v).] Automatic volume control of a wireless receiving system is delayed by a voltage due to the fall of potential through a directly-heated cathode. As shown the modulated carrier is applied to the two diode anodes A, B of a double-diode triode valve V, the anode A being associated with the positive leg of the filament and connected through a condenser C2 to the high-potential side of the input circuit L, C1, while the anode B is associated with the negative leg of the filament and connected directly to the same point of the input circuit. The demodulated signals produced by the diode B in its load resistance VR are fed to the grid of the valve V for amplification, and the D.C. potentials developed across the load resistance R1 of the diode A are used for automatic volume control. The diode A does not produce an appreciable output until the signal reaches a certain amplitude as its anode is normally at the same potential as the limb of the filament which forms its cathode.
