489,275. Valve circuits for wireless reception. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Oct. 22, 1936, No. 28729. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] Automatic volume control in a receiver for use with a television system in which the amplitude of the carrier wave is increased by the vision signals from the " black " value and decreased from said value by the synchronizing impulses, is obtained by deriving a potential dependent upon the signal representing minimum picture brightness. As shown the demodulated signals from the diode rectifier 10 are applied to the control grids of valves 13, 15. The synchronizing impulses are separated and phase reversed by valve 13 and applied to an auxiliary grid 3 of the valve 15 to prevent the anode current of the latter from being varied, when the synchronizing impulses are applied to its own control grid. The normal anode current of the valve 15 is thus varied in accordance with the vision signals, the variations in its anode potential being rectified by the diode 19 the output from which is used for A.V.C. after passing a filter 24, 25 the time constant of which is large compared with a line period so that the A.V.C. potential is proportional to the amplitude of the peaks of the vision signals in the " black " direction.
