Abstract
497,371. Television receivers. RUDKIN, E. P. June 19, 1937, No. 17086. [Class 40 (iii)] Synchronizing signals are isolated by combining the mixed synchronizing and picture signals with out of-phase picture signals. In Fig. 1 (Comp.), the received signal is demodulated by diode 2a, 5 to produce mixed signals across resistance 4, while diode 2b,5 is biassed by the potential across resistance 34 to produce picture signals only across resistance 26. The two sets of signals are out-of-phase and are applied to the two grids 27, 29 of valve 28 so as to produce synchronizing signals only in its output circuit. The picture signals may be amplified and applied to the suppressor grid of a valve whose control grid is supplied with the mixed signals, Fig. 2 (Comp.) (not shown). In Fig. 3 (Comp.) the diode-triode 64 develops mixed signals across resistance 70, while an anode-bend detector 71 develops picture signals only across resistance 70 in opposite phase, so that only the synchronizing signals appear across resistance 70. A similar circuit uses two diodes, one biassed to produce only the picture signals, Fig. 5 (Comp) (not shown). In Fig. 6 (Comp), the diode 93 produces mixed signals across resistance 94 which are amplified at 95, the valve 95 having its gain reduced during the picture signals by bias derived from resistance 98, (across which picture signals only are developed by valve 106 fed from a diode 105 biassed to produce picture signals only), so that synchronizing signals only appear in its output. The Provisional Specification discloses a circuit operating on a different principle. Mixed signals are applied to the control grid of a pentode 4, Fig. 1 (Prov.), whose suppressor grid is biassed to cut-off. The mixed signals appear in reverse phase in the screen grid circuit and are applied over condenser 13 to the suppressor grid the synchronizing pulses thus allowing anode current to flow.
