417,371. Making cartridge cases &c. MANUFACTURE DE MACHINES DU HAUT-RHIN SOC. ANON., Bourtzwiller, Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, France. Oct. 14, 1933, No. 13583/34. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1933. Divided out of 417,355. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Forging-machines.-In forging a cylindrical blank which has been severed from a bar and pressed to the shape in Fig. 1 as in Specification 417,355, the dies 33 and 34 form it from the shape shown in Fig. 1 to that of Fig. 3, from which cartridge or projectile cases can be drawn ; the blanks are located in the holes of an indexed conveyer plate 27 which brings them in turn under the dies 33 and 34, each top die 33 pressing the blank from the conveyer into the lower die 38, after which an ejector 40 pushes the blank up back into a hole of the conveyer 27 which carries it to the next pair of dies 34 which similarly operates on it and brings it to cup formation with a bottom of the required thickness. The dies 33 and 34 operate one after the other so that full power is available for each forging stroke. The bracket 39 in which the top dies move can be slid aside, after the dies and guides have been raised, so as to fit other dies therein. The conveyer plate 27 is indexed by pinwheel 29 and crank 30 driven through a safety clutch 32 which slips if jamming occurs. The conveyer plate and its driving mechanism can be swung aside for quick die adjustment.
