[Class 78 (iv).] In arrangements for transferring a wheeled container &c. from one vehicle &c. to another and comprising a transfer bridge on which the container wheels run and the ends of which rest respectively on the two vehicles, the container is supported on its vehicle during transit other than by its wheels and means are provided for rolling the container to and away from the bridge. The bridge has curved-down ends to facilitate positioning on the vehicles. The means may comprise supplementary wheels mounted on pivoted arms to lie normally off the supporting surface, but capable of being brought down by mechanism which thereby also effects a slight raising of the container. In another method, the container is raised by crowbars, and rails or ramps, which may be pivoted to the bridge, are inserted under the container wheels to support the container, or alternatively the wheel axles are transferred to journal holes located below those normally engaging the axles. the rails or ramps may have anchoring projections, and have raising means consisting of screws or levers. In a further modification the bridge e is transported with the container and is fitted with a winch t from which a cable x<1> extends, preferably over a pulley v<1>, to a bar u<1> pivotally or slidably connected to the container. A steadying paying- out cable x<2> is attached to a similar bar u2. Adjustable steadying pads w<1> carried by the bridge e abut against the two vehicles during transfer of the container.
