Vehicle fittings; vehicles, handling.-Means for transferring a road vehicle on to or from a railway vehicle comprises a transfer trolly 1, Fig. 2, which is provided with supporting platforms 3, 4 of the required number and shape to suit the wheels of the road vehicle being transferred and with wheels or rollers 2 adapted to co-operate with rails 18, 7 provided respectively on the floor or underframe of the railway vehicle 20, Fig. 11, and on a second or platform trolly 5, Fig. 4, which is used in conjunction with the transfer trolly. The platform trolly consists essentially of a framework 16 mounted on castors 6, preferably with interposed springs so that the trolly can be moved on the loading bank or platform to the desired position adjacent to the railway vehicle, but when the transfer trolly has been placed thereon and the road vehicle run on to the latter the springs '15 yield and the framework 16 sinks into contact with the ground so that the platform trolly is immovable. In the construction shown, the transfer trolly has two platforms 3 for accommodating the road wheels of a two-wheeled vehicle and an additional platform 4 for receiving a castor wheel. Passage of the road vehicle from the loading bank or platform on to the transfer trolly is facilitated by providing on the framework 16 platforms 10 with hinged extensions 11 adapted to serve as ramps. To bridge the gap between the rails 18 and 7 on the railway vehicle and transfer trolly, the ends of these rails are adapted to be engaged by detachable rails 24. Suitable devices are provided for securing the transfer trolly to the railway vehicle, and the road vehicle to the transfer trolly or railway vehicle.
