[Class 81 (ii).] Apparatus for massaging the body while applying electricity thereto and comprising a known make and break massage hammer is provided with a screw 16 for connection to the casing or lamp socket 20 of an ordinary pocket torch containing a battery 10, and the coil 1 of the magnetic hammer is enclosed in a casing 3 of magnetisable material. A spring 4 is secured by plates 5 to the casing 3 and an armature 6 having a spring 8 co-operating with an interrupter screw 7. The hammer 9 may be a conductor or, as shown in Fig. 3, may consist of rubber or other insulating material on a metal base 14 from which wires 13 lead to the ends of the projections 15, which may be shaped to the part of the body being treated. The poles of the battery are connected one to the screw 7, the other to the coil 1 the other end of which is connected to the casing 3 or the armature 6. The torch casing 19 is held in the hand which serves for completing the circuit through the body. The connections to the battery may be reversed. Chemicals such as lactic or formic acids, or ointments may be applied simultaneously with the massage. An adjustable resistance or condenser may be interposed between the casing 3 and hammer 9. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of armature pivoted at 18 and having a projection 17 extending within the solenoid.
