Abstract

20,279. Hergens, H. Sept. 29, 1913, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Transformers.-In massage apparatus in which electric currents are produced in the secondary windings of induction coils by a slow contact-breaker, a number of coils are used and each of the secondary windings is connected to a separate current-collecting point so that any number of currents can be collected for the treatment of different parts or persons. The primary windings are excited by a slow contact-breaker actuated by a separate source of current, the regulation of which enables the contact breaker to be set for slow or quick operation without affecting the strength or tension of the working current. Each coil may have a separate contactbreaker. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the slow contact-breaker consists of a weighted lever 1 in a circuit comprising a battery 4, resistance 5, electro-magnet 2 and armature 3. On the armature 3 is mounted a spring contact 6 which contacts with a screw 7 when the armature 3 is attracted and closes a circuit comprising a battery 8, a plug switch 9, a resistance 10, a reversing switch 11, switches 12, and the primary windings 13 of the coils 14. Each of the secondary windings 15 is connected at one end to a separate terminal 16 and at the other end to a common conductor 17 provided with one or more terminals 18. A single electrode 19 for the back and seat is connected to the terminals 18, and other electrodes 21 for other parts of the body are connected to the terminals 16. The common conductor 17 may be replaced by a number of separate terminals, one for each coil.
