Abstract

415,968. Sewing machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) March 22, 1934, No. 8964. [Class 112.] A presser foot is modified to carry out such operations as edge-stitching, blind stitching cords, piping, binding, gathering, picotting, &c. The presser foot comprises a shank 10 carrying a sole plate having a flat work-engaging portion 14, an inclined portion 14<1> and a raised toe portion 15. The flat portion has a work guiding slot 16 which also serves as a needle opening and has a guiding groove 16<1>. The raised portion 15 has left and right open-ended guiding slots 17 and 18. An auxiliary edge guiding plate 22 is adjustably secured on top of the sole-plate by a screw 19. This plate has a depending guide lip 23. The plate 22 also carries an upstanding element 221 with a cord guiding aperture 24 having an entrance opening 24<1>. The shank 10 is provided with an aperture 25 through which braid or cord can be passed from back to front. A slot 26 is provided to facilitate the placing of the cord or braid in the aperture. Removably carried by the toe portion 15 is the gathering attachment. This has an inclined part 28, a flat part 29 and a raised part 30. The part 28 has a U-shaped clearance notch 28' and the parts 29, 30 have L-shaped flanges. The gathering attachment may be placed in operative or inoperative position. At the front end of the gathering attachment is a tip 33 with a cord-guiding aperture 35.
