[Class 136 (iii).] In a collapsable cycle frame, the seat pillar, the chain stays, and the front down member or members are connected to the crank bracket in such a way that, when the steering-head, back stays, and top member or members are detached, they may fold about the axis of the crank bracket. As shown, the seat pillar 1 is rigidly mounted on a cylindrical crank bracket 2, and two parallel down tubes 4 and the chain stays 12 are formed with ring-like ends 13, Fig. 4, mounted on the screw-threaded projecting ends of a sleeve 17 engaging the bore of the crank bracket 2, the ends 13 being normally clamped in position by ring nuts 20, while the bearing cups are secured within the sleeve by ring nuts 21. The front ends of the pairs of parallel top tubes 3 and down tubes 4 are flattened into eyes and secured in side recesses in lugs on the steering-head 8 by bolts and nuts. The rear ends of the top tubes 3 and the ends of the back stays 14 are flattened and secured by threaded pins and nuts. On detaching the members 8, 3, 14 and slackening the ring nuts 20, 21, the members 4, 1, 12 may be folded down flat as indicated in dotted lines. As a modification, the top tubes 3 may be pivoted at 10 so as to fold down flat in front of the seat pillar 1. The sleeve 17 may be replaced by shanks on the ring nuts 20, adapted to screw into the ends of the crank bracket 2.
