Abstract

473,721. Cycle frames. ELLIS, E. Aug. 13, 1936, No. 22277. [Class 136 (iii)] In a bicycle or like frame comprising the usual front down tube 4, lower rear fork 5, and seat tube 2, the usual top tube and upper rear fork are replaced by flexible or non-rigid tie members (e.g. wires or cables) connecting the seat tube to rigid parts of the frame. The seat tube 2 is supported at its upper end by a wire or cable 7 connected to the head 1, and by two wires or cables 8 connected to the lower fork or chain stay 5. Two tubular struts 9, united by a connecting-piece 10, extend diagonally between the upper end of the head 1 and the ends of the fork 5. The cables 7, 8 are attached by means of adaptors 11 to lugs 12 on the tubes 1, 2, and the cables 8 are attached to the fork 5 by tensioning-devices 13, whereby their tension can be adjusted. The cable 7 may also be fitted with a tensioning- device, and the seat tube 2 may be pivoted to the crank bracket 3, so that its inclination may be adjusted. The cables 8 are spaced apart by a distance-piece 14.<1>
