Abstract

415,049. Paper felt underlays for carpets &c. SKIPSEY, A., 29, Gurney Court Road, St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Feb. 11, 1933, No. 4203. [Class 142 (iv).] Floor coverings used as mat and carpet underlays comprise paper felt, to one or both surfaces of which a layer of butter muslin or like thin fabric is adhesively secured. The adhesive used may have non-slip properties and may penetrate through the fabric, or a non-slip preparation may be applied separately. The adhesive may comprise glycerine, gelatine and water, formaldehyde being subsequently applied. Latex or other rubber containing compounds may be used, for example mixtures of casein and rubber latex the rubber being vulcanized. The casein may be rendered insoluble in water by treatment with formaldehyde, hexamethylene tetramine, or chrome alum &c. Softening and wetting out agents such as glycerine, treacle, glycero ethers, trihydroxy-triethylamine &c. may be added. The latex may be used in the form of a foam. The muslin &c., may be sprayed with the material, or pass through a bath thereof. Terry material may be applied as described in Specification 406,697. Single or double backed corrugated paper felt may be used.
