369,643. Pile fabric floor coverings, &c. COLLINS & AIKMAN CORPORATION, South-East Corner, 51st Avenue, Philadelphia, and CHANCE, P. H., Montclair, New Jersey, both in U.S.A. Sept. 23, 1930, No. 28475. Convention date, Jan. 20. Addition to 367,364. [Class 142 (iv).] A carpeting or floor covering as in the parent Specification is made by coating the backing of a pile fabric 2 with a water insoluble coating such as an aqueous dispersion of rubber preventing shedding of the pile &c., and adhesively uniting laps of such fabric cut to form matched edges of normal pile density by cementing their entire area upon a base 7. This may be a paper felt cemented to or loose on the floor, or the laps may be cemented to the floor, a rubber or other cement being used, which may also be applied to the edges of the laps. The laps may have their edges matched by pinking or by cutting simultaneously their superposed edges. A contrasting border may be applied around the periphery of the main body of the carpet &c. Pile fabrics may be used woven in a double plush loom with the tufts loosely woven in the base, but secured therein by the application of an aqueous dispersion of rubber containing a vulcanizer and accelerator.
