Abstract

414,788. Pipe couplings. B.E.N. PATENTS, Ltd., and ELWESS, E., Gorst Road, Chase Estate, Willesden, London. Feb. 20, 1933, No. 5187. [Class 99 (i).] In a spigot-and-socket joint in which a spring- closed valve v is opened by the spigot engaging an extension vl of the valve, the spigot seats against a single washer w which is fixed at its edge in the socket band forms on its other side the seat of the valve. The spigot may be held in the socket by a bayonet joint or by a coarse screw-thread. Notches p<3>, Fig. 3, in the thread of the spigot are engaged by a projection on the side of the socket thread (not shown) to lock the screwthreaded joint. External rubber rings w<1> are provided on the spigot to protect the thread and serve as a handle.
