Abstract

414,650. Converting. DALLENBACH, W., 60, Oldenburgallee, Charlottenburg, Berlin. Feb. 3, 1933, No. 3387. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1932. [Class 38 (ii).] An inverter employing grid - controlled discharge devices is prevented from falling out of step (i.e. going into internal short circuit) by the provision of sufficient resistance or reactance respectively in or associated with the apparatus feeding the D.C. circuit to prevent its external characteristic from rising above the true step limit of the inverter in the whole of the range of load. The true step limit of the inverter is the characteristic curve representing the condition at which internal short circuit occurs for various phase settings of the grid control. In one form the resistance is included in the D.C. circuit to produce a falling characteristic. In the form shown the D.C. circuit 17 is supplied from an A.C. circuit 12 through a rectifier 13 reactances 10 being provided on the A.C. side to give the required characteristic. The rectifier 13 may be grid controlled. A discussion of the theory of operation of inverters is contained in the Specification.
