Abstract
516,140. Converting D.C. to A.C. ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATS-GES. June 21, 1938, No. 18457. Convention date, June 21, 1937. [Class 38 (ii)] In an arrangement for converting D.C. to A.C. comprising discharge devices having ignition control, short-circuiting of the D.C. circuit on cessation of the ignition control is avoided by the provision of means which causes an increase in amplitude of the alternating component of the short-circuit current sufficient to reduce the current momentarily to zero to enable the discharge device operating to become non-conductive. This is effected by adjusting the inductive and capacitative elements Dr<1>, Dr<2> and CL, Fig. 1, on the supply side of the inverter to be resonant at the frequency of the A.C. network being supplied. In the form shown, the supply to the inverter W is from a rectifier G. In a modification the inductance in circuit is larger than is necessary for resonance so as to give increased smoothing and is designed so that the. inductance is reduced to the correct value for resonance by the short-circuit current flowing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the circuit cut-outs should be adjusted so as not to respond to momentary increase in current during the extinguishing operation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
