Abstract
414,272. Refuse destructors. HEENAN & FROUDE, Ltd., and SPEIGHT, W. H., Worcester Engineering Works, Worcester. Dec. 7, 1933, No. 34417. [Class 51 (i).] In a refuse destructor having the vertical top feed opening into each cell constructed with a hollow fluid-cooled cast iron ring or surround A protecting the masonry or brickwork B, the gap between the top of the ring A and the usual mouth ring E is sealed against the escape of gases or the leakage of cold air thereinto when the top feed opening is closed, by a ring of firebricks D held in position by an angle iron F. The ring A may be formed in sections which are bolted or otherwise fixed together and during erection is supported from girders c by bolts C which also act as safety devices in the event of a failure of the masonry B. The ring may be cooled by water or air, the air in the latter case passing into the cell by way of apertures a<1>.
