Abstract
414,080. Boots. FARR, F. W., and FARR-VULCAN PROCESS CO., Ltd., 38, Victoria Street, Northampton. Jan. 27, 1933, No. 2592. Drawings to Specification. [Class 17 (ii).] The holes formed in the upper of a welted boot or shoe by the inseam are sealed by applying to the inside of the upper, e.g. between the upper and lining round that part which is penetrated by the inseam, a strip of crepe or other unvulcanized rubber and securing it by adhesive, such as rubber solution. If desired, the rubber may be secured also to the lining. The strip is cold vulcanized and particularly in the region of the stitches after the inseam has been made to seal the holes by applying a suitable fluid or agent. Alternatively, a strip of vulcanized rubber may be applied and secured by an unvulcanized medium which is vulcanized after sewing. Guttapercha, balata, pitch, or the like substance or any combination of these may be applied in one or more coatings to the inside of the upper or between the upper and lining and the holes may be sealed, after the inseam has been formed, by applying heat. Rubber solution, rubber latex, or suitable adhesive may be applied to the upper or lining and to the sewing thread also, if desired. A vulcanizing fluid may be applied to the inside of the upper, after sewing, to vulcanize the solution.
