Abstract

Connecting uppers to insoles and soles.- Rubber footwear, such as plimsolls, are built up of sections of canvas or like material coated before or after being secured together with rubber latex which in itself may form a sole, surround, or trapping, or to which, with the aid of a rubber solvent, a separate rubber sole, surround, or trapping may be attached. The shell of the shoe may be formed by sewing together at their edges an upper section c, and a bottom section a having a margin extending about # of an inch beyond .the desired size of the shoe. The stitching is zig-zag, including running cords d. The cords are then tightened, turning the margins over on to an insole b, which has previously been cemented to the central portion of the insole. and the cords are tied. The shoe is then turned inside out and a felt or like sock e, and a canvas sock e<1> inserted. The lower part of the shoe is then dipped in latex, once if a crepe or other sole is to be applied. Vulcanizing agents, and filling colouring pigments or compounds may be added to the latex.
