Abstract

198,239. Surridge, R. June 27, 1922. Connecting uppers to insoles and soles.-Indiarubber soles and heels for footwear are composed of an outer layer of vulcanized rubber, preferably under-cured, and a backing layer of unvulcanized rubber mixed with about 10 per cent of sulphur and about 1 per cent of carbon, which becomes vulcanized by the heat and pressure to which it is subjected during use. The sole is attached to the boot by means of a solution of hard Para rubber in a mixture of equal proportions of carbon tetrachloride and trichlorethylene.
