Abstract

414,037. Drying-apparatus. WILSON, E. G., Netherwood, Farmoss Road, Blundellsands, near Liverpool. Jan. 24, 1933, Nos. 29639/32 and 8446 /33. [Class 34 (ii).] Apparatus for drying or conditioning skins or other sheet material comprises a chamber, which may be divided into compartments, of which one or more sections are formed of two apertured components, such as grids, for regulating the air flow, the grids being movable towards or away from each other, and having the openings of one component offset with respect to the openings of the other. Means are provided for effecting adjustment of the movable component, or both components, at will. The apertured components may form part of the ceiling, floor or walls of a chamber or compartment. In one form, the compartments such as A of a drying chambers have double floors 2 spaced from the base 3, and apertured ceilings spaced from the top 5, and the ducts so formed communicate with a fan 8. The number of compartments may be increased or reduced as required. Means are provided for guiding the vertical skincarrying frames in their movement into and out of the chamber, and the frames are provided at front and rear with batten strips 16, so that the chamber is closed when a frame is fully inserted or withdrawn. The floor has a fixed and a movable component, 2a, 2b, formed of parallel strips 22, 25, supported by bearers 23, 26, forming apertures 24, 27. The component 2b is supported by four bellcrank levers such as 28, located one near each corner, and interconnected by cross-spindles 29 and tie bars 31, which are connected to an external adjusting handle, so that the floor may be raised as a whole. Any lever 28 may be adjusted on its tie-bar, so that the corners of the component 2<a> may be independently adjusted. This independent adjustment may be obtained alternatively by attaching the cross-spindle 29 to a threaded rod 39 working in a tube 41 engaging the fixed component 2<a>. The floor components may be formed of curved metal plates instead of wood. In other forms, the skins are suspended from an horizontal movable carriage, and sliding doors are provided.
