Abstract
Chromium compounds of the azo dyestuffs o-oxyaminonaphthalene sulphonic acid --> a naphthol are made by treating the o-oxyazo dyestuff in the usual manner, in neutral or acid medium, with an agent yielding chromium then rendering the reaction mixture alkaline and completing the chroming in the alkaline reaction mixture. They give fast even blue to black shades on materials of all kinds, including regenerated celluloses, cellulose esters and ethers and lacquers. In examples: (1) the dyestuff 1 - amino - 2 - naphthol - 4 - sulphonic acid --> b -naphthol is boiled with chromium fluoride and sodium formate for 5 hours and for another 2 hours after addition of sugar and caustic potash; (2) basic chromium sulphate is used as in (1); (3) the dyestuff in (1) is boiled with chromium acetate and then with sugar and caustic potash; (4) the same dyestuff is boiled with chromium formate and sodium acetate and then with sugar and caustic soda; or (5) with chromium formate and then with sugar and caustic potash. Examples of the dyeing process are also given. Specifications 364,148 and 408,497 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the following examples: (6) the dyestuff of (1) is dissolved with caustic soda and sugar, boiled with Cr2O3, formic acid and oxalic acid and finally with caustic soda; (7) the same dyestuff is dissolved in caustic soda, boiled with a solution of Cr2O3 in chloracetic acid and afterwards with caustic soda and sugar; (8) the same dyestuff is refluxed with caustic soda and chromium formate and finally with caustic soda and sugar; (9) a solution of Cr2O3 in oxalic and formic acids is used as in (8); (10) the dyestuff 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid --> a -naphthol is dissolved in caustic soda, refluxed with chromium formate and then with caustic soda; (11) the dyestuff in (1) is boiled with chromium formate and then with caustic soda; (12) the dyestuff from nitrated 1-diazo-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid and b -naphthol is suspended in water and caustic soda, boiled with sodium formate and chromium formate and then with caustic soda; (13)--(14) the dyestuff of (12) is boiled with aqueous chromium fluoride with or without glass powder and then with caustic soda. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
