Abstract

The monoazo dyestuff 2-amino-1-methoxybenzene-4-sulphodiethylamide --> 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoyl - 1<1> - amino - 2<1> : 4<1> - dimethoxy-5<1>-chlorobenzene is prepared in substance or on the fibre. It yields turkey-red shades fast to light, weather, chlorine, and boiling aqueous sodium carbonate and caustic soda. Examples are given. Specifications 279,146, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 343,419 are referred to. 2-Amino-1 - methoxybenzene - 4 - sulphodiethylamide is made (a) by reducing the corresponding nitro compound prepared from 2-nitroanisole-4-sulphochloride and diethylamine or from 2-nitro-1-chlorobenzene-4-sulphodiethylamide and methanol or (b) by treating 2-acetanisidine-4-sulphochloride (from the corresponding sulphonic acid) with diethylamine and saponifying. Examples are given.
