Abstract

413,766. Thermionic cathodes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, and WALDSCHMIDT, E., 49, Klingsorstrasse, both in Steglitz, Berlin. Feb. 1, 1933, No. 3061. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] In an indirectlyheated cathode of the type in which the emissive coating is produced by applica. tion of a metal vapour to the equipotential surface, the ends of the insulating tube are maintained at such a low temperature that the emissive layer deposited on them during activation is unable to perform emission. In one form, the heating spiral is straightened at points near the exposed ends of the insulating tube. In a modification, Fig. 3, cooling rings 8 on the insulating tube 3 maintain the ends at a low temperature. The equipotential surface may be made in two parts, the outer one overlapping the inner one at the ends. The ends of the insulating tube may be coated with a substance such as aluminium which absorbs gases discharged from the tube. The ends of the insulating tube may be coated as described in Specification 375,481. Specification 414,375 also is referred to.
