[Class 44.] A spring-pressed sliding latch bolt 2 is connected by an arm 10 to the moving element 7 of a pneumatic buffer to cause the latch to shoot slowly. The buffer consists of a piston 7 carrying a cup washer 8 and slidable in a cylindrical casing 5 secured to the front plate 31 or one side plate 4 of the look casing. The air outlet of the buffer is adjustable by a screw 11 accessible through a hole 13 in the front plate 3<1>. An additional hole may be provided in the side of the casing 5 to let out air during initial inward movement of the latch.
