Abstract

412,266. Timing ignition. DELCOREMY CORPORATION, 329, East 1st Street, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Arthur, J. L. ; R.R. 7, Edgewood, Anderson, Indiana, U.S.A.) Dec. 23, 1932, No. 36487. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1931. ' [Class 7 (iv).] Ignition is retarded while the engine is idling by a device responsive to induction pipe suction, the device serving to advance the ignition when the engine is under part-load. To the housing of an interrupter-distributer unit is clamped an arm connected by a rod 67 to a diaphragm 97, the compartments 90, 91 adjoining which are connected by pipes 107, 117 to openings 111, 119 on the induction pipe, the opening 111 being on the engine side of the throttle 112 when closed, and the opening 119 on the carburetter side. Movement of the diaphragm in either direction is opposed either by a single helical spring, or by two springs, one within the other. Under idling conditions with the valve 112 closed, the vacuum exerted in compartment 91 by way of opening 111 retards the ignition. As the throttle valve 112 is opened suction through the opening 119 increases and relative advance occurs. At higher speeds when the suction in the induction pipe is small, the centrifugal governor enclosed in the interrupter housing effects the required advance. Stops 81, 82 limit the movement of the diaphragm 97 ; manual adjustment may be effected by a Bowden wire 78 attached to the support 70.
