[Class 100 (ii).] Planographic printing-plates having inkrepelling areas of mercury amalgam are prepared electrolytically by using either a hard amalgam, e.g. of silver, gold, copper, or nickel, or the separate elements for producing the amalgam, as an anode in a galvanic bath. The design may be applied to the plate before or after the deposition of the amalgam. In the latter case the amalgam is coated with a metal to which ink will adhere and the design produced thereon in any suitable manner. The coating metal not covered with the design is then removed. The whole of the printing plate may consist of an electrodeposited amalgam.
