410,972. Optical-projection apparatus. HAIGH, B. P., 44, Caterham Road, Lewisham, London. May 26, 1933, No. 15300. [Class 97 (i).] Fixed or moving images or shadows are projected on to a large opaque screen 4, such as a back-screen for pageants &c. and without the use of optical systems, by a source of light 1 of small area so placed that a line joining it and the centre of the screen makes an acute angle with the screen ; the light source is also out of the line of vision of observers viewing the screen, is nearer to the screen than the observers, and is shielded from them by a screen 11. One or more fixed or movable objects, stencils, or transparencies 5, are arranged nearer to the light source than to the screen 4, and out of the line of vision of the observers. The objects may be mounted on carriers 5b which run on rails 9 and are movable by an endless belt 8 ; they may be flat and parallel to the screen, and their paths may be straight or curved and may be inclined to the screen so that the images or shadows change in size as they move. Two or more light sources may be used in combination with one or more objects, and they may be of different colours. Additional projectors may be provided for general illumination of the screen. When projection is on to a backscreen in a theatre, the source of light &c. may be above the screen, so that performers on the stage do not come into its beam.
