Abstract
410,783. Brackets. FABIAN, G. A., and FABIAN, E. S., 98, Granleigh Road, Leytonstone, London. Nov. 17, 1932, No. 32551. [Classes 52 (iii) and 52 (v).] A folding-arm book support comprises a vertical pin bracket 6, a collapsable lazy-tongs supporting arm 5 engaging the pin 6 by its sleeves 7, 8, and a foldable bookrest carried on the free end of the supporting arm 5 by a universal joint 12. The book rest itself comprises two upright members 13 and two diagonal members 14 pivoted at 15 to the uprights and at 17 to each other, and slidable in slots 16 at the upper ends of the uprights. Projections 113 are provided to retain the book on the rest. The book rest is held in the adjusted position by nuts 19 tightening on the ball of the universal joint. The underface of the sleeve 8, which rotates on the pivot pin, is provided with grooves 9 which are pressed against a projection 10 by means of a spring 11 and the sleeve is thus held in any adjusted position. In a modification (not shown) the lazy-tongs arm is replaced by telescoping tubes and the book rest comprises a plurality of fiat strips pivoted together at one end and opening like a fan. Hinged strips may be provided to retain the pages of the book in the open position.
