Abstract
In an electric heating-apparatus the heating members are wholly or partly insulated by moulded members made from a mass consisting of natural or artificial magnesium silicate burned to the density of porcelain by means of a flux not containing magnesium or alkali. The insulating members contain 20 per cent or more of magnesium oxide, and may be provided only at the points of maximum temperature, other insulating material such as chamotte or stoneware-like masses, mica &c. being provided at points of lower temperature. In an example insulating members are moulded from a mass containing 80 per cent of steatite or talc, 10 per cent of plastic clay and 10 per cent of kaolin, these materials being as free from alkali as possible. The moulded members may be in the form of heads or tubes which are drawn over the heating member, or they may be formed with recesses or projections to take the heating member. Specifications 21987/11, [Class 70], and 142,512, [Class 22], are referred to.
