Abstract

409,317. Pressure gauges. CHERNIKEEFF, B., 7, Upper Addison Gardens, London. Oct. 25, 1932, No. 29837. [Class 106 (ii).] A speed indicator for ships comprises Pitot tubes with openings at right angles each connected to a separate pressure gauge c, d, Fig. 1, adapted to operate contact arms e, f, in order to include in a circuit j a resistance proportional to the speed. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the tubes a, b are connected to Bourdon gauges v, w operating contact arms e, f, over rheostats g, h arranged back to back. The rheostats are connected at i and the contact arms move in opposite directions so that the resistance between the arms is unaffected by variations in the draught of the ship. Each contact arm may have a roller in contact with the rheostat contacts, or in contact with the rheostat contacts and with a segmental ring 30, Fig. 10, included in the circuit j ; in the latter form the rheostats may be arranged side by side in a substantially horizontal plane. The tubes a, b are connected to bores a<1>, b<1> in an arm o adapted to be drawn back into a watertight casing in the ship provided with a closing valve r. The apparatus may be combined with the log described in Specifications 177,187 and 193,254, [both in Class 97 (ii)], and provided with the indicator described in Specification 318,563, [Class 106 (iii)]. This is effected by connecting the gauges through unions 21, 22, Fig. 7, to bores a<1>, bl in the log shaft 16, or by using instead of one of these bores the space between the shaft 16 and the casing q.
