Abstract
518,285. Ships draft gauges. GILLIE, J. W. Aug. 20, 1938, No. 24552. [Class 113 (i)] In draft gauges for ships of the type in which a suitably protected transparent tube with a scale is lowered over the side of the ship with a valve in open position for the entry of water, the connection to the valve takes the form of a flexible joint to overcome any inequalities in the wire connected to the trigger which is operated from above. As shown a universal joint E Fig. 3 is interposed between the wire C and the spring pressed valve A. In order to cater for different lengths of line for ships in ballast or loaded a readily released catch is employed, two similarly shaped pieces of metal H. J, Fig. 6, are employed,' one being attached to the tube and the other to the line. Specification 233,525, [Class 113 (i)], is referred to.
