[Class 123 (i).] In means for indicating electrically movements at a distance in which the movements of a transmitter over a branch of a wheatstone. bridge produce currents adapted to actuate a member movable over a second branch so that the balance of the bridge is restored, the transmitter and the member co-operate through the medium of an instrument the rotary coil of which lies in a third branch and is coupled mechanically to the member. In applying the invention to indicating the level of liquid in a tank means are provided for eliminating error due to tilting of .the tank. In the construction shown in Fig. 8, a tank 28 is provided with pressure caps 30, 32 connected to pipes 10 which are adapted, when the caps yield, to bridge a number of resistance windings depending upon the extent to which the caps are depressed. The resistances 2 are in the same circuit so that the total resistance is independent of the extent to which the tank is tilted. More than two pressure caps may be employed. In a modification the two pressure caps are connected by a pipe filled with liquid and leading to a third pressure cap which co-operates with a resistance, and are also connected by rods to diaphragms in a wall of the tank so as to compensate for pressure or vacuum in the tank. In the construction shown in Fig. 10, floats 45, 45<1> are connected respectively to arms 10, 10<1> pivoted on a shaft 44, the arms engaging a resistance 2. The resistance bridged by the arms is independent of the inclination of the tank and varies only with the variation of liquid in the tank.
