Abstract
133,056. Paulin, J. G. Sept. 26, 1918, [Convention date]. Integrating.-In pressure gauges having a diaphram acted upon differentially by two opposing fluid values, the values are integrated by an electric totalizing meter, a differential manometer is coupled up in parallel with the diaphragm device for comparison, and means are provided to enable the latter to be corrected for variations due to residual elastic effects in the diaphragm device. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a ship's log of a known kind. A Pitot tube 1 and hydrostatic tube 2 are connected to chambers 3, 4. in which are diaphragm members 6, 7 connected bv a tube 8. These members, the tube 8, and a chamber 9 are filled with oil or like insulating liquid. The chamber 9 contains rheostats 10, 21, the contacts 11, 20 of which are connected to the diaphragm 7. An electric integrating meter 13, reading total mileage, and an electric speed indicator 14 reading the instantaneous speed are connected up as shown to the rhecstat 10 and to a battery 16, the battery being also connected to the point a through a rheostat 17 and two fixed resistances 18, 19. The rheostat 21 is in circuit with the resistance 22 as shown, and movement of the contacts 11, 20 results in exactly the same resistance being put in one one rheostat as is cut out upon the other. The manometer 23, 24 is connected to the tubes 1, 2 through cocks 27, 28. At low speeds, to correct the readings of the meters, the rheostat is adjusted bodily by the screw 30; at high speeds, the rheostat 17 is used to adjust the readings of the electric instruments to correspond with that of the manometer.
