Abstract
141,244. Cuttriss, S. W. June 25, 1919. Barometric apparatus.-A statoscope, or instrument for use on aircraft &c. to indicate whether the machine is rising or falling, comprises a chamber having a flexible diaphragm adapted to operate a pointer and provided with means, such as a porous plate, for permitting continuous but restricted communication between the interior and exterior of the chamber. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the chamber 20 communicates with a chamber 22 having two diaphragms 23, 24 the movements of which are adapted, by means of links 25, 26, to cause rotation of a drum 27 on which are two arrows facing in opposite directions and so arranged that rotation of the drum brings one of the arrows opposite a fixed aperture 28 to indicate whether the machine is rising or falling. 29 is the porous plate &c. which, in the form shown, is surmounted by an adjustable valve 30 to regulate the rate of leakage: this valve may be separately mounted on the chamber 20. The operative movements of the diaphragms 23, 24, being in opposite directions, errors due to inertia effects are avoided.
