Abstract

409,283. Glassware manufacture. DICHTER, J., 4, Munzstrasse, Berlin. Oct. 24,1932. No. 29734. [Class 56.] Glass vessels are formed from cut lengths of tubing by heating one or both ends and pulling out by means of mechanical grasping implements to form a narrow neck. A length.of tubing 10 is heated at one end while supported by a mandrel 13 shaped to produce a bellmouth 16. The tubing is slowly rotated, a tool 14 producing a shoulder. Tongs 15, Fig. 3, then stretch the neck 17 over an elongated mandrel 18, both the tube and tongs preferably being rotated, and the mandrel either fixed or rotatable. The other end of the tube can be treated similarly, or the tube parted and bottomed if single neck ampoules are required. For producing a constriction, a narrow flame 20, Fig. 4, is applied and a rotary disc 21, having a V-shaped or a serrated edge, is fed against the neck while a mandrel 22 is pushed inwardly to form a bulge 23, Alternatively, the glass may be heated until it partially collapses to form a waist portion 23<a>. As shown in Fig. 7, a smooth disc 25 forms a breakage point, while a mandrel 26 is pressed against the neck 17 by means of a spring 27, and is axially bored for supplying compressed air to form a bottom 28.
