[Classes 12 (i), 12 (ii), and 12 (iii).] At one or both ends of a bearing with spherical bearing surfaces 32, a cap-like member 18 is attached to a stationary element such as the ring 16, independent of the actual bearing housing 10, 11, so as to surround the rotating parts and divide the bearing oil space into inner and outer oil chambers and form spherical packing spaces 26 to prevent oil from passing out of the inner oil chamber. As shown, two caps 18, 18<1> are applied to the ring 16 in which pivoted bearing-blocks 15 are rotatably driven by a ring 14 fixed to the shaft 12. Passages 22 connect the inner and outer chambers, and grooves 35 are formed within the packing spaces 26. The caps 18, 18<1> may have a flange 19 to prevent lubricant flowing over the outer faces from reaching the shaft. Members 24, 24<1> co-operate with the caps 18, 18<1>, the member 24<1> having a greater peripheral diameter than the member 24 to promote oil circulation through the bearing. The outer bearing chambers are connected both in the air and oil spaces by passages 27 in the ring 16. The latter has a spherical perimeter so that it can roll on the surface 33 of the bearing housing, and the packing spaces are concentric therewith.
