Abstract

476,802. Bearings. AKTIEBOLAGET NOMY. June 10, 1936, No. 16226. Convention date, June 11, 1935. [Class 12 (i)] A cylindrical journal bearing has its revolving member 2 formed with side faces to take axial thrust by acting against rings 11 carried by caps 8. These caps are supported against " cardan " rings 25 and subdivide the oil bath, oil entering through holes in the rings 11 into the spaces 15 and passages 16 to the bearing surface 6. Oil leaving this surface escapes into an inner chamber surrounded by the cap 20, which is a sliding fit on the fixed ring 3. Oil thus escapes slowly through this restricted outlet into the space 19, and does not tend to revolve with the bearing ring 2. The cap 20 is held in axial position by springs 21. Flanges 30 on the cap 8 and 31 on the ring 30 form oil packing gaps. In a modification the ring 2 is secured to the shaft by a tapered screw sleeve which is only partially split to prevent oil creeping along the shaft in the split. Specification 462,602 is referred to.
