[Class 98 (i).] In a roll-film cartridge, the distance between the inner faces of the spool flanges B, Fig. 2, is reduced adjacent to the edges either by dishing the flanges or by beadings B<1>, and the film, or its backing, E3, Fig. 4, is transversely stiffened by members F, F<1>, adapted to spring within the flanges and prevent uncoiling. One or each flange is preferably resilient and the stiffening members are of flexible material. To secure the leading end of the film about the core, a resilient spring washer L, Fig. 8, having an annular rib L<1>, adjacent to the core M, is fitted within a recess K<2> in each flange K. The leading end of the film is secured to the core either by a notch F<2>, Fig. 4, engaging a projection M<3>, Fig. 8 on the core M ; or by a leading strip O, Fig. 9, adapted to be threaded into a slot in the core and arranged in advance of a stiffening member P.
