[Class 83 (iii).] ' A turret lathe has means whereby a tool such as a die head 12 is automatically raised clear of the turret support 13 when the turret is indexed and is returned to operative position before the next operation of the tool. For this purpose the tool is mounted on a slide 14 movable on a guide 15 secured to one turret face and carrying a roller 16 which, when the turret is indexed, engages a cam track 17. The cam track is preferably built up of three parts, viz. a flat portion 19 and two sloping portions 18. The slide 14 may be biassed downwardly by a spring, its position being determined by a stop 22.
