444,328. Automatic lathes. B.S.A. TOOLS, Ltd., Armoury Road, Small Heath, and OGILVIE, W., c/o B.S.A. Tools, Ltd., Montgomery Street, Sparkbrook, both in Birmingham. Oct. 10, 1934, No. 28966. [Class 83 (iii)] In an automatic lathe of the kind having front and rear tool slides adapted for independent operation mounted between the headstock and a turret, a double slide base 1 consisting of a single member, is fixed across the bed on the upper side of the trays or brackets 3 formed on the front and rear parts of the machine and carries at each end a cross toolslide. The double slide base is of plate form and is secured across the bed by bolts 2, recesses 11 being provided for the cross-slide operating levers 13, 18 and a cut-away portion 8 to facilitate the passage of chips and finished work pieces. The cross-slides are independently operated by the levers 13 and 12, 18 from the cams 16, 17 respectively.
