[Class 80 (i).] A gear unit a is cooled by a fan c which draws air in through an orifice d<2> in a deflector d<1> and drives it past the cowl d<3> along the surface of the casing. The casing may have ribs a<1> which enter the cowl so that the air velocity is increased, and additional air is drawn into the cooling current by an injector effect.
