Abstract

344,703. Cooling lubricant. FITZPATRICK, C. J., 3, King Street, Acton, London. April 22, 1930, No. 12478. [Class 12 (iii).] The gearing, for example worm-wheel gearing 11, 12, in a casing and the lubricating oil 13 therefor are cooled by air under draught induced by the gear rotation. The air inlet p i p e 16 6 discharges laterally at a point x adjacent to the wheel 12 and to the oil such that the air is thrown by the gear rotation upon the oil surface. The air outlet 17 lies higher in the casing and preferably on the other side of the wheel 12, which by its rotation augments the effect of convexion produced by the warmth of the casing in discharging the air. The pipes may take the form of passages in the gear casing and may contain gauze dust-filters.
