Abstract

408,195. Vacuum-jacketed vessels. THOMAS, A. A., 36, West 44th Street, New York, U.S.A. June 29, 1932, No. 18355. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 16, 1932]. [Class 29.] A vacuum flask comprises inner and outer glass vessels 10, 12, the inner one being provided with asbestos spacers 15 and formed with a shoulder 13 which, when the vessels are assembled, rests upon and is fused to the upper edge of the outer vessel. The assembled vessels are supported in an asbestos-lined cup 19 mounted on a plate 18 rotated through gearing 25, 27, and are fused together by a stationary burner. If desired, the cup may be fixed and the burner rotated. The flask is enclosed in a casing 29, Fig. 4, of sheet metal or moulded composition, the casing and the outer vessel being formed with interengaging screw threads 33, 34 separated by a thin rubber or fabric band. Rubber sealing rings 35, 37 are provided between the flask and the casing and the space between them insulated, if desired, with carbon dioxide.
