Abstract
407,634. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR, 8, Fleming- gatan, Stockholm. Oct. 3, 1933, No. 27163. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1932. [Class 23.] A centrifugal separator, particularly for use in purifying oils, has a bowl 2 enclosed in a frame housing divided into two chambers 11, 12 by an annular wall 7 provided round the spindle 5, and a waste liquid outlet 13 leads from the chamber 11 inside the wall. The purified light component passes into the chamber 4 and the heavy component consisting of emulsified oil and water passes into the chamber 3. After the chamber 3 is filled, the emulsion is forced between the hood and the chamber 3 into the chamber 12, and its great viscosity prevents it from flowing through the tube 14. Eventually it stops the bowl, and the contents of the bowl flow out through the channels 8 and nozzles 9 to the chamber 11 from which they are discharged by the pipe 13. The annular wall 7 prevents the emulsion from reaching and clogging the pipe 13. The wall 7 may be cylindrical or conical, and has a flanged top. In a modification the portion of the housing situated inside the wall 7 is enlarged at its lower end, and extends below the part of the housing outside the wall.
