Abstract
406,752. Attaching pronged fasteners. CHENEY, C. W., Factory Road, Soho, Birmingham. Sept. 9, 1932, No. 25117. [Class 89 (iii).] Relates to tools, of the general character described in Specification 215,478, [Class 89 (iii)], for attaching locks or similar parts to attachÚ cases &c. The invention is described as applied to the machine described in Specification 396,726. Flaps h, i with plane lower surfaces are hinged in gaps j, m in the bottom plate g<2> of the yoke g. In operation, the yoke descends and forces the workpiece x on to the prongs e<2> of the lock, &c., element e. As the prongs penetrate the workpiece, they force the flaps h, i into the position shown and are bent by their engagement with the flaps. The punches f<2> then descend and force the flaps down, clinching the prongs on the work-piece. The flaps have curved surfaces o for engagement with the punches and stop lugs n which prevent the flaps swinging down below the lower surface of the plate g<2>. Each flap clinches two prongs and is associated with two punches. The flaps may be spring-biassed to assume normally an inclined position.
