Abstract
406,268. Corset stiffeners. WEEKS, W. R., 1, Rue Ambroise Thomas, Paris. Aug. 18, 1932, No. 23156. [Class 141.] Springy metallic strip material, as corset stiffeners, made of steel is covered on both sides with strips of resilient material such as paper or cloth having a width not greater than that of the strip and a coating of a plastic material, such as celluloid, is then applied so as to surround the whole. The strips of paper or cloth may be coloured, embossed, or otherwise decorated, and the plastic material is preferably transparent. Either the metal strip 1 or the narrower paper &c. bands 2 may be coated with adhesive and pressed together between rolls 3, after which the compound strip passes through a re-entrant tube 6 in a container 5, supplied with plastic composition under pressure, and is coated by passing through an extrusion orifice 7 which is wider at the ends than the middle to provide extra material at the edges of the strip to allow for shrinkage during drying. After drying on rolls 8, 9, the strips are cut to size and their ends sealed by dipping in celluloid solution.
